The Octagon

After showing my 17 year old daughter a few birdhouse designs I liked, I asked her to come up with her own original design. Her only question to me was “What if I design something that’s complicated to build?”. I’ll admit this design had some challenges but she has always done really well in math and is looking at engineering as her college major so we worked through the design. Made primarily of reclaimed wood, the majority of this house is cedar. I used a semi-transparent black stain on the base and sides while leaving the roof and feed holder unstained to form a nice contrast, per my designers specifications. Finished with 3-4 coats of Polycrylic over the entire house to protect against the elements.
